Chapter
Twenty
As predicted, it isnât long before weâre up in the air again and on our way to Seattle. Kane is coming along with us, safely tucked away in the transport, while everyone else that came up with him is remaining on that beach, and just off it, to set up a camp for themselves. Theoretically, Kane will be returning there after this short family trip to Seattle to pay their Uncle Tie their respects. Kane doesnât look too happy to be in the transport flying through the sky. Heâs just as bad as John is with the claustrophobia.
The word is agoraphobia. Itâs either that or heâs afraid specifically of flying, Dac tells me.
Whatâs agoraphobia?
It means heâs afraid of open spaces.
Oh. That would explain a lot, actually, considering that heâs from the Water Nation.
Considering he was fine standing on the beach, itâs more likely that heâs simply afraid of flying, Dac says.
And Iâd be willing to bet itâs because of something Nathan did.
Youâd win that bet.
Not me. I donât have any issues with flying. Keeping pace with the transport, I look in through one of the side windows to see the shaking Kane holding onto his arms so tight that he might cut off circulation. I notice Rose looking at me and wave at her. She turns to Dac and says something, giving him a message to relay to me.
Rose still wants to know why youâre flying yourself instead of riding in here with the rest of us. I donât even need to think about this one.
Tell her itâs because I couldnât take the sitting around anymore. It feels good to be able to fly and not have to hurt myself racing her. Would you also remind her that I won that race?
Dac tells her what I said. She looks understanding up until what Iâm assuming is him adding the part about me winning.
She says to grow up already.
I stick my tongue out at her just to show exactly how mature I am. She does the same right back, but adds a ridiculous face to the mix. This is just one of the many reasons I like her.
Donât you mean loooooove her? Dac teases.
One day when you develop a crush on some lady program, Iâm going to get you back for all of this.
Why would I ever need one when Iâm living through your awkward teenagerness?
Is that a word? I ask him.
Why not? Fair point.
Weâve been flying for a while now. Dac gave me the heads up that weâll be landing soon about fifteen minutes ago. Iâd look around me to try and figure out where we are, but all I see right now are trees. Honestly, Iâm genuinely amazed that they havenât all been cut down to make way for factories. Maybe, just maybe, Logan has some sort of heart and, knowing that this is his uncleâs final resting place, chose not to disturb it and to let it be a tree sanctuary of sorts. The world still needs to breathe, and trees are responsible for that.
